Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire is a traditional farmhouse Lancashire made by the Kirkham family at Beesley Farm in Goosnargh, near Preston.
Made from raw milk from the farm’s own herd using the traditional two-day curd method, it is the last remaining raw milk farmhouse Lancashire of its kind.
What does Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire taste like?
Buttery, fresh and slightly tangy, with a light, fluffy texture that crumbles gently before melting in the mouth.
There’s a lovely balance between lactic freshness and rich savoury flavour.
Who would enjoy Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire?
If your idea of Lancashire cheese is something dry and sharply acidic, Kirkham’s is likely to change your mind.
It’s a fantastic choice for anyone who likes traditional British territorial cheeses such as Cheshire, Wensleydale or Caerphilly.
How to serve Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire
Serve simply with bread, oatcakes or fruit cake.
It is also one of the best melting cheeses around — particularly good for cheese on toast.
Stephen’s Take
“This is a really important cheese.
It isn’t just delicious; it represents a style of traditional Lancashire cheesemaking that has almost disappeared. The texture is what gets me — crumbly and light, but somehow buttery at the same time.
And it makes ridiculous cheese on toast.”
— Stephen, Founder of George & Joseph Cheesemongers
