Yorkshire Blue is a soft, creamy cow’s milk blue cheese made by Shepherds Purse near Thirsk in North Yorkshire.
First created in 1995, it was Shepherds Purse’s first cow’s milk cheese and has become one of Yorkshire’s best-known artisan blues.
What does Yorkshire Blue taste like?
Yorkshire Blue is creamy, mild and slightly sweet, with gentle blue flavours rather than lots of salt or sharpness.
As it matures, the flavour becomes deeper and more complex while retaining its characteristic creaminess.
Who would enjoy Yorkshire Blue?
This is one of the cheeses we recommend most often to people who say they’re “not really into blue cheese”.
If you want something creamy and mellow rather than powerful and salty, Yorkshire Blue is a very good place to start.
How to serve Yorkshire Blue
Serve at room temperature with simple crackers, bread, pears or figs.
It’s a great blue for a mixed cheeseboard because it won’t dominate the other cheeses.
Stephen’s Take
“Yorkshire Blue is probably one of the easiest blues to introduce people to. It’s creamy, mellow and incredibly easy to eat.
I particularly like putting it on a cheeseboard where there are people with very different tastes — even the reluctant blue-cheese eater will often come back for another piece.”
