Our mildest blue, this is milder than the Harrogate Blue. It is an ideal introduction to blue cheese for anyone who is a blue newbie.
It has a little sweetness with no sharp acidity and a nice buttery crumbly texture. Launched in 1995 by Shepherd’s Purse in Thirsk, Yorkshire Blue was the first blue cow’s milk cheese to be produced in Yorkshire for 30 years. This is made by hand and is matured for 8 weeks. It was awarded Best English Cheese at the 2018 International Cheese Awards.
Shepherd's Purse was started in the late 1980s by Judy Bell who set out on a mission to create quality dairy alternatives for cow’s milk allergy sufferers. They started making cheese from only ewe's milk then extended their range to include cow's milk and water buffalo milk cheeses. We also stock other Shepherd's Purse cheeses - Harrogate Blue, Fettle, and Buffalo Blue.
They are now an award-winning independent family-run business, making cheese in the traditional way from their farm in North Yorkshire with the business now led by Judy's daughters Katie and Caroline.
