Colston Bassett Stilton is one of the great traditional British blue cheeses, made at Colston Bassett Dairy in Nottinghamshire.
The dairy dates back to 1913 and still sources its milk from farms very close to the village.
What does Colston Bassett Stilton taste like?
Rich and creamy with a mellow sweetness, balanced saltiness and beautifully integrated blue veining.
It has plenty of flavour without the bitterness or aggressive sharpness sometimes associated with Stilton.
Who would enjoy Colston Bassett Stilton?
If you want a classic Stilton, this is the one we regularly recommend.
It’s powerful enough for serious blue-cheese lovers but balanced enough to convert people who think Stilton is always harsh or overly salty.
How to serve Colston Bassett Stilton
Serve at room temperature with oatcakes, fruit cake or good bread.
Port is the classic match, but sweet wines, full-bodied reds and darker beers all work well too.
Stephen’s Take
“If someone asks me for ‘a really good Stilton’, this is usually where I start.
It’s everything Stilton should be — rich, creamy and properly blue, but beautifully balanced. There’s a reason it’s such a Christmas classic.”
— Stephen, Founder of George & Joseph Cheesemongers
