Baron Bigod is a rich, creamy British Brie-style cheese made by Jonny and Dulcie Crickmore at Fen Farm Dairy in Suffolk.
Made using milk from the farm’s own herd of Montbéliarde cows and a traditional Brie de Meaux-style recipe, the curds are carefully hand-ladled before the cheeses are matured.
What does Baron Bigod taste like?
Smooth, silky and buttery, becoming increasingly soft and yielding as the cheese matures.
Expect rich creaminess, earthy mushroom flavours and a slightly vegetal character from the rind.
Who would enjoy Baron Bigod?
If you like Brie de Meaux, Camembert or other rich, mushroomy soft cheeses, Baron Bigod is an excellent British cheese to try.
It also works brilliantly as the soft cheese on a cheeseboard because it brings richness without overwhelming everything around it.
How to serve Baron Bigod
Take it out of the fridge around an hour before eating so the texture and flavour can properly develop.
Serve with a simple cracker or good bread. A little fig, honey or something gently sweet works beautifully alongside it.
Stephen’s Take
“Baron Bigod is one of the benchmark British soft cheeses for me.
At its best it’s rich, earthy and gloriously gooey — and I genuinely think it can stand alongside some of the very best French Brie.”
— Stephen, Founder of George & Joseph Cheesemongers
