March Cheese Box
If you order the subscription to be delivered in April it will be three different cheeses to the three listed below. The cheeses listed will only go out in March's deliveries.
Pitchfork Cheddar - UnPasteurised, Cow's Milk, Traditional Rennet
A true farmhouse Somerset cheddar. This is produced by the Trethowan Brothers in North Somerset following a move after 25 years from their family farm in Teifi Valley Ceredigion. They use Organic milk from a single source – pasture-fed Holstein-Friesian and Jersey cows – which maintains quality and taste. The dairy also produces Gorwydd Caerphilly – both cheeses have won several awards particularly in the last few years. At the World Cheese Awards in Bergamo, Italy in 2019 Pitchfork won Best Mature Traditional Cheddar, Best Extra Mature Cheddar, Britain’s Best Cheese and 4th Overall in Best World Cheeses and deservedly so. At the same awards Gorwydd Caerphilly received 11th place overall.
You will immediately smell Pitchfork, we think it’s one of the nicest smelling cheeses we stock. Flavours of mushroom, quite meaty! A mature tangy cheddar with a little saltiness to it. Tastes amazing, some might say juicy.
Leeds Blue - Pasteurised, Ewe's Milk, Traditional Rennet
Mario Olianas, an Italian man settled in Yorkshire, produces a range of Italian-inspired ewe’s milk cheeses from the production facility at his home in Adel. His are without a doubt the most local cheeses we stock. We also take his fresh Pecorino, Ricotta and now stock his brand-new Halloumi-style cheese too.
A very creamy soft cheese which is fresh like their Pecorino, most similar in texture to a Gorgonzola. A gentle mild blue aged for 30 days with savoury notes, a little bitter with some sweetness that lingers in your mouth. The ewe's milk (sourced from a farm daily just outside Harrogate) gives this cheese a lovely, rounded richness.
Crookwheel - UnPasteurised, Ewe's Milk, Traditional Rennet
Made using Ewe’s milk from the Lacaune breed of Sheep this is a Sheep’s milk cheese not to dissimilar to Spanish Manchego. Made by Nicola Robinson & Martin Gott at Holker Farm Dairy in South Cumbria they use a non-invasive which means leaving the Sheep to graze the grass all day and only being milked just the once a day. When Crookwheel is young the cheese packs lots of creaminess and acidity becoming richer and savoury as the cheese ages. The cheese carries an earthy aroma with a dry and crumbly texture.
**PRODUCT SHELF LIFE - with the majority of our cheeses we cut and wrap them fresh to send out, hard cheeses last 7 to 10 days, softs last 5 to 7 days from date of dispatch. Please bear this in mind when choosing your date of delivery, you can choose up to 3 months in advance. We advise you arrange delivery for as close to your planned date of consumption as possible**
We do stock a small number of individually pre-wrapped cheeses which come in with longer best before dates and make a great option to go into hampers that will not be gifted for a while - please email for advise on which cheeses work best in this instance.
